Standalone Facebook application plan: release betas, if they work for 100M users, grow and monetize

Facebook plans to launch more applications, Q1 earnings call today, Mark Zuckerberg blueprint for picking which ones to throw its weight behind the company. First, will the initiative Creative Labs for building applications for specific purposes. If you resonate with users, and Facebook to grow to 100 million users. If that succeeds, and only then will they try to make money off them.

Zuckerberg said, "we are delighted with the initial reaction of paper", the first Facebook application Creative Labs. The company is still actively fine-tuning product sheet, hoping to shine by possibly using the Facebook app and website promotion for independent design-focused feed reading application.

Facebook will use a similar plan for acquisitions on instagram and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg says the current priority for these companies is growing, and not bleed, although instagram recently started showing the first declarations.

This roadmap takes a long time to play out. Zuckerberg said that Creative Labs applications "may take several years before we get to the WhatsApp and instagram, which itself is still years away from being an important large corporations."

Why focus on growth first? Because monetizing too soon can intimidate users. If the application can reach a huge number of users, and network effects kick in to make it more useful and fend off competitors. If the WhatsApp, there are a lot of international messaging applications are still vying to replace SMS. Instead of nickel and dime now users and increase the risk of stagnating or losing the war, Facebook wants to make $ later by focusing on getting these applications for large scale.

Zuckerberg said at the Mobile World Congress the lack of services in the world can reach a billion users, and they all have value. "Currently, dominating four of Google (at least) seven services which are popular: Google and YouTube, and chrome and Android. Facebook wants more of its own.
