Here is the only smartphone of the market which the back cover is a second electronicink display. A high-end device that should make noise.
The second edition of the YotaPhone arrived in France. This smartphone brings an innovation of size: it is equipped with two touch screens, a 5-inch AMOLED on its front (Full HD), and a second 4.7-inch electronic ink E Ink on the back (540 x 960 pixels). It is an always on screen, but that consumes energy when the image is moving. It is also capable of displaying information even in the Sun, since its technology is identical to that of the electronic lights.
Electronic ink in the service of the battery
The two screens are protected by a layer Gorilla Glass 3 for maximum strength. Any signed a suite Yota allows you to customize what can display permanently: agenda, SMS notification (you can even respond), weather, etc. The possibilities are many, and applications can take advantage easily. The screen can be used to control the classic interface of Android (as mirror screen). This will be just a little less pleasant, because less fluid and responsive. But everything is readable.
And on the side of autonomy, the electronic ink display done rather a good job: in our first exclusive tests, Yotaphone 2 is (only) 3 hours 45 minutes to play a Youtube video on its AMOLED screen (set at an average of 200 cd/m²)... And 8 hours and 20 minutes on its electronic ink display.
High price
The device is clearly top of the line. It is armed with a Snapdragon 800 processor supported by 2 GB of RAM. It combines an 8 megapixel camera on the back, and 2.1 megapixel front. Obviously, the Yotaphone 2 is compatible 4G, and it relies on a 2500 mAh battery, without being too heavy: 145 grams.
However, you will find that 32 GB of storage internal, non-expandable capacity fault of memory MicroSD card reader. No 64 GB version scheduled for now, need to settle for this model, especially since it is already quite expensive: 699 euros! The device will be available in the week in France.
